What is the Gun Bill
All Americans know about massive shootings happening in different schools, shops, and other public places. The reason why these shootings took place is the Gun Bill of the USA.
Gun Bill is a legal document that decides who can obtain a gun, what kind of gun different people can obtain, and how they can use it. There are lots of different loopholes in this law, and we are going to discuss them in this article.
Gun Bill Updates
Although the Gun Bill is a topic with a lot of contradictions, Senate has finally announced that they are ready to make some changes to this document, which means that we can see some updates in the nearest future. Here are the topics that will be considered and possible changed by the Senate:
- The level of background checks for people under 21 years. Senate will not change the age threshold for buying a gun, but it will think about stricter regulations for those younger than 21. This will possibly include a search of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System’s juvenile justice and mental health records.
- “Boyfriend Loophole”. It is known that 23% of all massive shootings were done by people with a history of domestic abuse, which is why the Senate will consider banning gun ownership for such people. This would also help to solve not only the problem of gun shootings but domestic violence as well.
- Mental Health Safety Inside Schools. It might be important to consider not only the side of shooters but of their victims as well, which is why funding mental health services both inside and outside of schools are also something worth considering by Senate. Such funding could also mean better security for kids inside institutions and additional behavioral intervention programs.
- Banning interstate purchases of guns. To the current date, there is still no law prohibiting the purchase of guns in other states, which means that it is also possible for sellers not to have any information about their buyers from other states. Banning such behavior will possibly decline the levels of violence as well.
- “Red Flag” Laws. This would mean giving a right to a judge to take away somebody’s gun when there is a risk that this person could hurt themselves or others. What is more, it would not be necessary for this person to have some criminal records or mental illnesses in the past: your family member or a doctor could have a right to petition to court without the need of such proof.
